Originally built at the end of the 18th century, the building is part of the original Marques Pombal’s grand reconstruction plan of Lisbon, following the tragic earthquake in 1755. It presents all the traditional Pombaline features, notably high ceilings, and a seismic-resistant structure. His location at the corner of two of the most charming streets of Baixa makes it an ideal nest in the city. Let yourself be enchanted by its yellow façade, stonework window framing and imposing dark-green wooden doors.

Frederico Valsassina was born in Lisbon in 1955. He graduated with a Bachelor in Architecture in Lisbon’s Faculty of Fine Arts in July 1979. He collaborates with national and international studios, and forms his own studio in 1986. He has published work in Portugal and abroad.

In 1995, he is invited by the Parque Expo’s administration to draw up a Zone of Vila Expo. He receives the Honourable Mention at the 2003 Valmor Prize for the Alcântara Rio Project. In 2007, he receives the INH/IHRU National Prize and is represented in Lisbon’s Architecture Triennale. In 2008 and 2009, he is represented in the World Architecture Festival Exhibition in Barcelona. In 2009, he is selected for the IV ENOR Architecture Award. He is, also, selected for the National Exhibition of Architecture Habitar Portugal 2006/08 and a guest jury of the International Architecture Competition, being held at the Campinas University - Brasil.

He receives the 2004 Valmor Prize for Art’s Business & Hotel Center project in Parque das Nações. In 2009, he is invited by the President of the Order of Architects to preside at the jury of the Secil Universities Architecture Competition. In 2012, he receives the Honourable Mention of the 2009 Valmor Prize for the R.T.P./R.D.P. Studios project. In 2013, he projects the Adega Herdade do Freixo, the allotment of Bélgica Street in Vila Nova de Gaia, among others.

In 2014, he receives, in partnership with Manuel Aires Mateus, the Honourable Mention at the 2012 Valmor Prize with the recovery of a housing building in Rosa Araújo Street.He has projects of reference in the area of rehabilitation, particularly the Condes de Murça Palace, which received the National Award of Urban Rehabilitation in 2015, and the Contador-Mor Palace in 2016.At the moment, he is developing projects in several fields, highlighting the new CUF Tejo Hospital in Lisbon project.
